Consumer Cellular Voicemail Password: How to Recover?

Here’s how to recover a Consumer Cellular voicemail password:

You can follow the prompts from your Consumer Cellular voicemail account to reset the password to the last four digits of your phone number.

You will need to be in possession of your Consumer Cellular phone to do this.

You can also contact customer support and get help from a qualified representative.

So if you want to learn all about recovering your Consumer Cellular voicemail password, then you’re in the right place.

Let’s get into it!

What Is Your Voicemail Password?

While we pretty much all have voicemail accounts with our phones, most people don’t really use the password assigned to the voicemail.

Personally, I haven’t entered my voicemail password into a device in over a decade.

So, what does the password really do?

There are a few answers, and the first is that it allows you to check your voicemail at all.

Typically, smartphones remember the password for us and can automate that part of checking voicemail, but if you ever need to check your voicemail from a different device, you’ll need to know the password.

Another feature of the voicemail password is that it allows you to change your voicemail settings.

If you want to record a new message, change how long messages are saved, or edit any other settings, you first have to log in with your password.

Lastly, the password is a security barrier.

If you want any level of privacy and security surrounding your voicemail, it needs some kind of password.

As long as you know your password, you have direct control over everything.

If not, things can get a little weird (which I’ll explain more in a bit).

How Does Consumer Cellular Use Voicemail Passwords?

For the most part, the voicemail password with Consumer Cellular does the same thing as any other phone company.

It gives you direct control over the voicemail account.

There is one way that Consumer Cellular is a little different, though, and that’s worth mentioning.

By default, Consumer Cellular requires the voicemail password to check messages, even when you’re checking on the phone attached to the account.

Many other wireless companies don’t require a password in that specific instance.

But, you can change this setting.

To do so, dial your voicemail and enter the password. Go through the voicemail menu first by pressing “*.”

From there, you want option 4 for Personal Options, 2 for Administrative Options, and 1 for Passwords.

You then have a few more choices to make.

Press 2 to control the password requirement.

It’s a toggle between on and off.

So, if the password was already required, just press 2 once.

Then, press 1 to confirm your changes.

That takes care of it.

What Happens If You Don’t Have the Password?

Ok.

The voicemail password allows you to control settings, but is it really that important?

What really happens if you don’t have it?

There are three things to consider.

The first is pretty obvious.

You can’t change the settings without that password.

If your settings are already in a good spot, then that probably won’t bother you.

The second issue is that you won’t be able to check or access your voicemail from another device.

Most of us keep our personal phones on us pretty much all the time, so that also might not be a very compelling issue.

The third problem is that you can actually lose control of your voicemail account.

If a nefarious person ends up with your voicemail password, they can use it to mess with your account and cause problems.

Because you don’t know the password, you won’t be able to log in, reset things, and then change your password to something new to stop the problem.

For those reasons, understanding your password reset options can be important.

How Do You Recover Your Consumer Cellular Voicemail Password? (2 Options)

Clearly, the password is important for administrating your own voicemail account.

But, like anything else, it’s possible to forget or otherwise lose track of this password.

What can you do about that?

Fortunately, Consumer Cellular does have mechanisms in place to recover the voicemail password.

Below, I’ll walk you through the steps necessary to recover it on your own, using the Consumer Cellular automated system.

If you don’t want to go that route or can’t, I’ll also show you how to get in touch with Consumer Cellular customer service.

Between these two options, you should be able to recover your voicemail password.

#1 Use the Automated Reset Mechanism

The easiest way to recover your voicemail password is with Consumer Cellular’s automated system.

It’s designed specifically for voicemail password problems, and it’s easy to use.

There is one catch.

You can only do it from the phone attached to the voicemail account.

Assuming you have the phone, then the first step is to dial #793# and hit send.

When you do this, you will get prompts on your phone’s screen. It is going to walk you through a reset procedure.

Follow the prompts, and when you finish, the voicemail password will be completely reset.

There is one thing to note, though.

This process doesn’t allow you to pick your new voicemail password.

Instead, it sets the password to be the same as the last four digits of your phone number.

As long as you know your phone number, you’ll be able to access your voicemail again.

But, that also means that your voicemail password isn’t super secure.

Anyone who knows how this reset works could conceivably take control of your voicemail.

So, when the reset is done, it’s best to go ahead and manually change the voicemail password right away.

This can prevent a lot of problems, and make your life a bit easier.

Resetting Your Voicemail Password

Let’s go ahead and take a minute to learn how to reset the password manually once it’s reset to the last four digits of your phone number.

You do this by connecting to your voicemail account.

So, press and hold 1 on the phone with the voicemail account.

It should ask for your password, so put that in. From there, you will get voice prompts.

You can press “*” to get to the voicemail menu, and as a shortcut, you can press “4” to get to the system for changing your settings.

You’ll have a few options here.

You want the security option as it allows you to change your voicemail password.

Going through these prompts, you can set the voicemail PIN number to whatever you choose.

With that done, your voicemail is secure again, and you have access to the number.

#2 Contact Consumer Cellular Support

If all of that sounds too complicated, or if any part of it doesn’t work, your other option is to contact Consumer Cellular support.

They have resources in place that can help you manage your voicemail and its password.

They can walk you through the steps, and depending on the situation, they might even use resources outside of what I have already explained.

Regardless, your most powerful resource when it comes to resetting your voicemail password is the people who manage it all.

So, when all else fails, contact the company directly.

You can do a live text chat, or you can call and speak over the phone. Either communication method should be just fine.

But, it’s sometimes better to contact them using something other than the phone that needs troubleshooting.

That way, if you have to do any troubleshooting with the phone itself, those steps won’t automatically disconnect you from the support agent.
